Multistate Outbreak of MDR TB Identified by Genotype Cluster Investigation
نویسندگان
چکیده
In 2008, diagnosis and investigation of 2 multidrug-resistant tuberculosis cases with matching genotypes led to identification of an outbreak among foreign-born persons who performed short-term seafood production work in Alaska during 2006. Tuberculosis control programs should consider the possibility of domestic transmission even among foreign-born patients.

Use of DNA Fingerprinting To Investigate a Multiyear, Multistate Tuberculosis Outbreak
In 1998-1999, the Baltimore TB control program detected a cluster of 21 tuberculosis (TB) cases. Patients reported frequent travel to various East Coast cities. An investigation was conducted to determine whether transmission of the same Mycobacterium tuberculosis strain was occurring in these other localities. A collaborative investigation among federal, state, and local TB controllers include...
متن کاملHigh clustering rates of multidrug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis genotypes in Panama
BACKGROUND Tuberculosis continues to be one of the leading causes of death worldwide and in the American region. Although multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) remains a threat to TB control in Panama, few studies have focused in typing MDR-TB strains. The aim of our study was to characterize MDR Mycobacterium tuberculosis clinical isolates using PCR-based genetic markers. METHODS From 20...
متن کاملOutbreak of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis in an aboriginal family in eastern Taiwan
Spread of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) strains in the general population presents a serious threat to public health and severely threatens existing control efforts. Techniques such as spoligotyping and Mycobacterium interspersed repetitive units-variable-number tandem-repeat typing of mycobacterial isolates have been employed to confirm familial outbreaks of MDR-TB. We diagnosed an...
متن کاملA joint cross-border investigation of a cluster of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis in Austria, Romania and Germany in 2014 using classic, genotyping and whole genome sequencing methods: lessons learnt
Molecular surveillance of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) using 24-loci MIRU-VNTR in the European Union suggests the occurrence of international transmission. In early 2014, Austria detected a molecular MDR-TB cluster of five isolates. Links to Romania and Germany prompted the three countries to investigate possible cross-border MDR-TB transmission jointly. We searched genotyping data...
متن کاملGeographic predictors of primary multidrug-resistant tuberculosis cases in an endemic area of Lima, Peru.
SETTING Peru reports among the highest multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) rates in the Americas, with a growing proportion in previously untreated tuberculosis (TB) cases. The identification of clusters of primary MDR-TB compared with drug-susceptible TB (DS-TB) could help prioritize interventions. OBJECTIVE To examine the clustering of primary MDR-TB case residences and their proximit...
